GET OUT OF THE HOUSE!
We are in the midst of the COVID 19 coronavirus problem. Officials all over the country are telling people to retreat into their homes and stay there. There are "stay at home" orders, "lock down" orders, and "quarantines". The idea is to stay away from those who may be carrying the virus by retreating into our homes and staying there until "all is clear". Nobody knows how long that will take. But, it is lousy advice. One of the most unhealthy things anyone can do is retreat into a house and stay there for long periods of time. Spending long periods of time isolated in a confined space is not healthy and only leads to more complications.
Rather, we should be telling people to GET OUT OF THE HOUSE! Yes, we need to avoid close contact with those who may have the virus. Yes, we need to give others social space. But, we can do that without staying indoors. Spend time each day outside. Mow the grass. Edge the sidewalk. Trim around the house. Work in the garden, Trim the bushes and trees. Wash the car. Clean your gutters. Weed and feed your lawn. Plant some flowers or vegetables. Do what can to spend time outside in the fresh air and sunlight.
Here is some real radical advice. Get in the car and drive to a park and walk or jog some trails. Enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. If the weather is bad, do some exercises at home, but don't just watch TV or spend all your time on your electronic device.
Health experts have told us forever that inactivity is terrible for our health. They also tell us that folks who are physically fit recover more quickly from illnesses. So, why are we being told to "stay at home". That's exactly the wrong advice. It's not good for our physical health or emotional health.
Be wise! But, GET OUT OF THE HOUSE!
