Is The U.S.A. Too Fractured To Mend?
The governor of New York said recently that people who were Pro-Life, Pro-Traditional Family, and Pro-2nd Amendment were too extreme for his state and weren't welcome. If you add up those in the three catagories, it comes to well over half of the U.S. population. In fact, if you were to take a poll asking if they favor the taking of the life of the unborn for the sake of birth control or gender selection, the majority would answer negatively.
The governor's statement is a strong indication of the fractures in our country. In more than 70 years, I've never seen the country so divided. Social issues aren't the only ones that divide us. We are divided over socialism and capitalism, the dangers of the national debt, international intervention, the size and scope of government, immigration, welfare, etc..
The question has to be asked, which we hesitate to raise. Have we divided too far to repair? Is there anyone who can heal our nation? The current adminstration is too wounded by pervasive corruption, ineptitude, and waste to command enough respect to lead down the path of healing. It will take someone who commands the respect of the vast majority of the various factions. Right now I don't see such a person waiting in the wings.
If no one arises who can lead us into a period of healing, we must face the reality that we may have split too far and along too many fronts to repair. In which case, we have to discuss rationally the possibility of agreeing to separate. I do believe there are a few people qualified to lead the Constitutional and Libertarian side of the population. There are some qualified to lead the Socialist and Huge Government side. But, I see no one who can handle both. We must remember that sooner than later the fractures will be chasms not cracks. Our national foundations that have seen us through hundreds of years will be rubble. There will be very little to build upon. Our relationships with other countries will be destroyed. We will have lost allies and will be respected by very few. Our economy will look like Haiti North and our military will be but a shadow of the past.
I know that this picture seems very negative, but to ignor reality will accomplish nothing. There is one possibility that has worked several times in our history when we faced bleak circumstances. In fact, it has worked about a dozen times. Ready? Spiritual Awakenings have lifted us up as a nation from the pits of destruction. Each time the results were amazing. All the Awakenings have certain items in common. They include: Seeking God's help, Sincere prayer, Repentance for offending God, Willingness to follow God's Word, Desire for healing, Unity of Purpose, and Willingness to sacrifice to achieve success. I see Spiritual Awakening as the only way we will remain "One Nation under God".
